Overview#
GenScript is a large, established life-science CRO that passes the fit gate clearly: it sells custom peptide synthesis (PepPower platform, up to 200 residues, mg-to-kg scale, 300+ modifications, peptide libraries, and RUO-to-cGMP tiers including neoantigen and API work) plus catalog peptides, through genscript.com (domain registered 2001-10-20, registrar DNSPod). Its U.S. presence is real and documented: GenScript USA Inc. at 860 Centennial Ave., Piscataway, NJ 08854 — the address in its parent's HKEX annual report, its own 'registered address' statement, and an FDA EUA letter naming it as the U.S. subsidiary. The structure above it must be read honestly: the listed parent, Genscript Biotech Corporation (HKEX: 1548), is a Cayman Islands-incorporated holding company (incorporated 21 May 2015; listed 30 Dec 2015) with operational headquarters in Nanjing, China, over a business founded in New Jersey in 2002 by Fangliang Zhang, Ye Wang, and Luquan Wang. All defined U.S. regulatory searches returned No Record Found: no FDA warning letter, recall, or import alert, no FTC action, no state AG action — the FDA record found is an authorization (2020 cPass EUA), not an enforcement action. Documented legal history: (1) as PLAINTIFF, GenScript USA won a $10M+ NJ jury verdict (2014, upheld 2015) against GeneWiz for trade-secret misappropriation; (2) a PRC customs investigation (2020-2022) into suspected import/export violations in which founder Zhang was arrested — closed by the Zhenjiang Procuratorate on 2 May 2022 with NO charges against any entity or individual and no criminal liability; (3) U.S. legislative scrutiny — House Select Committee letters (May 2024, renewed July 2025) requesting FBI/DNI briefings on GenScript in the BIOSECURE Act context; GenScript is not a company named in the BIOSECURE Act, no designation or finding has resulted, and this is news/legislative context, not enforcement. Testing model differs from RUO storefronts: QC is in-house (ISO 9001 RUO; cGMP tiers with batch records and batch-specific COAs covering HPLC purity and MS identity, expanded panels for cGMP), COAs are delivered with orders / downloadable by purchasers, and there is no public COA-verification portal and no independent third-party lab. Commercial model is institutional: orders by formal PO or credit card; no consumer refund/returns policy is published for custom services, though peptide turnaround guarantees ('or your money back' on the 5/7-business-day claim, delay compensation) and a faulty-product replace-or-credit guarantee for catalog products are documented. Open items are narrow: NJ SoS entity standing and registered agent were not retrievable in this pass (interactive registry), so both are recorded Unknown rather than inferred. No High/Critical severity findings: no FDA/FTC enforcement, no recalls, and no impersonation indicators — the domain (2001) predates and matches the documented corporate history.
